WHAT I DO
I write plays which are Epic and emotionally charged, offering stories infused with challenging ideas and simmering queerness.
Sam (he/him) is a Playwright and Dramaturg, originally from Gloucestershire and Devon, now based in South East London. He is currently Literary Associate and in-house Dramaturg at Omnibus Theatre
Writing
As a playwright, my work is Epic, emotionally charged and grapples with resonant questions about the human condition or the state of the world. From bold ecstasy to ominous dystopia - scale and wonder characterises my work, fuelled by characters who don't feel like they quite belong. Whether delivered on the stage or created in their imagination, I aim for my audiences to be invigorated by the play's landscape and embellish it with their own thinking.
A common convention with my work is the exploration of the inextricable relationship between people and the world in which they find themselves. Whether they be an outsider, or someone who doesn’t quite belong, through my writing I seek to understand what about our worlds nurture us into being who we are today. I don't aim to impose an answer, but present a question; work which mines for a nunaced truth perhaps not previously considered before. I'd like my audiences to be entertained, moved, and for them to consider the bold questions and ideas which define my work.
Omnibus Theatre
Since 2021, Sam has developed the Literary Department at Omnibus Theatre to offer opportunity for writers to explore theatricality and discover the potential for innovation within their writing. Sam has designed and runs two playwriting courses, facilitates workshops, networking events and produces scratch nights and festivals such as Engine Room and the Next Page Season of rehearsed readings.
Being an emerging writer himself, Sam has sought to address the isolation writers feel by making Omnibus a space for people to feel welcome and comfortable to develop and share their work. This peer to peer dynamic has defined his role, and thus the Literary Department at Omnibus Theatre; as well as informing how he approaches his work with creatives as a freelance dramaturg.

My dramaturgical experience ranges from one time consultancy to helping a writer develop a script ahead of production.
I look for work which excites my imagination and challenges my expectation. Developing a play with a writer is a journey, so I am always looking for brilliant writers I connect with as well as projects to work on. If you're interested in working with me then please do get in touch.
